  New Feature
Posted by: Corteo - 05-17-2020, 10:56 PM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (10)

Hi everyone,

We are excited to announce a new feature, lab notes!  Here you can read about the lore as we continue to expand it, as well as view past release briefs.

Perhaps the most exciting bit is that users can now unlock the genome sequences for creatures in order to be able to plan breeding projects.  How it works is that for each breed there is an amount of money that must be raised in order to unlock it.  The money is raised by the whole community as a whole.  It's not cheap doing science. ;)

In order to help with this burden, the amount of gold given for successfully breeding capsules has been increased.

  Fan Wiki?

So... anybody think making a fan wiki for this game? Or is it too early? I saw someone was already trying to collect info into one place for convenience, so I think a wikia would be a good idea. Maybe the earlier we do it the better!

  Expanding the help page

Hi all!

As someone who knows intimately how the site works I can often overlook some much needed information for new players.  I would really appreciate some community help fleshing out the help page.

Information Species Database
Posted by: BlueLatios - 05-09-2020, 03:21 PM - Forum: Site Discussion - Replies (55)

UPDATE: Project halted indefinitely. If someone wishes to take over or request this to be continued, please PM me as I am currently the sole organizer of this sheet and thread.

Due to the cooperative nature of the task, I propose the following solution to tracking the variety of creatures that can be raised, as well as an indirect tracker to check for existing genetic combinations for a certain species.
Edit: As of now, the Research Reference Repository has figured out a way to install a genetic predictor feature. It has been good that the database has been able to serve predicting purposes for people before that. I will still continue to work on it, as the goal of tracking the variety of existing creatures is still relevant. The consequence is that the labels will not be fully detailed, and you may have to either search through the database or use the installed predictor tool to see how a gene corresponds to a creature's appearance.

The solution is presented in the form of RESEARCH_FILES that makes use of the classical powerful Google Sheets.

As of now, I am the sole maintainer and worker of this sheet and the tracking activity. Feedback would be appreciated in improving presentability and usefulness of the work.

+ SPECIES is the Main Sheet. TEAM and RECORD are just extras. BREEDING_BASICS is a basic guide on predicting the offspring of two creatures. There are sheet links within the main sheet and there are return links for each sheet, located on the top rightmost part of sheet.

+ VARIATIONS refer to the parts of the body that may vary from the other parts when genetic changes occur.

+ Sortable Sheets for each species using the state-of-the-art filter views. To create a filter view, go to Data > Filter Views > Create New Temporary Filter. Select a column, open its Filter options (the three horizontal lines icon), Filter by Condition > Custom formula is > Use this formula to find the specific gene:

=EXACT(A:A, "AaBb")

where A:A is the column (if the column label is B, use B:B instead) and AaBb is the genetic label being searched.

+ When genetic data is complete, their genetic labels will be used instead, with matching font colors. As for variations of markings, a legend will be provided on an extra column in the sheet.

+ If genetic data is incomplete, researchers may work together (including myself) to figure out the genetic variations until the respective Lab Notes are unlocked, which by then can be used to cross-check and validate genetic research. ZnowyOwl, a peer of mine, has helped in cooperation to identify the genes and their effects on variation of a creature so far. More of the work can be found in ZnowyOwl's sheet linked in credits below.

If you have one or more of a species that has not been recorded in the database, you can now help by submitting the creature's code using the link below.

OUTPOST #1 – BULLETIN #42

PRIORITY: URGENT

PURPOSE: ANNOUNCEMENT

SUBJECT: NEW SPECIES DISCOVERED

Attention all scientists!

Thanks to the hard work of Dr. Coral M. Mui, a new species has been documented not far from our outpost. It has been dubbed Suna Hundo and appears to be mammalian in nature. As with all new species, please use caution when approaching or interacting with these creatures, and make sure to submit all gathered information to Dr. Mui for further analysis.

Attached is her 50-page report featuring all current behavioral and genetic data, along with reference photos and contact information for her laboratory for further questions.

Welcome to The Final Outpost!
We are entering public beta.  We are so excited to have you join us.  As we are in beta, some downtime and small bugs are to be expected.  The Final Outpost offers no guarantees of uptime or usability while we finalize the site.
