I tend to choose a theme for a species and roll with that - for example, my Monta Selos all have a gemstone in their name: Blood Emerald, Cosmic Lapis, that kind of thing.
I might have shot myself in the foot with some of those themes though. My Furioza Vizagos all have synonyms for "anger" as their names. So far I've got Ire, Wrath, Chagrin, Fury, Rage and Temper. Don't know if I'll be able to keep this up much longer though :)
