OUTPOST #1 – BULLETIN #71

PRIORITY: URGENT
PURPOSE: ANNOUNCEMENT
SUBJECT: NEW SPECIES DISCOVERED
Attention all scientists!
While taking a break from his historical studies, Professor C. Roote stumbled upon a new species within the forests around our outpost. Not one to be hasty in his field research, he studied them for some time, then began venturing further abroad to find more of this species he has dubbed Arbara Krono.
After a few months of meticulous exploration and with some help from the adventurous Erin Pontifis, Professor C. Roote’s search has been a success, and maps are available for several regions in which Arbara Kronos have been tracked and tagged for further observation.
His brief 50-page report is also available upon request, and a few excerpts can be seen below.  Continue to read the report.

These will flood for 36 hours.

  Why we have ads
Posted by: Corteo - 08-10-2020, 12:25 PM - Forum: Announcements - No Replies

As some of you may have noticed, TFO has finally been approved to host google ads.  This is integral for the long term health of the site.  We have monthly server/hosting costs and would like to start to be able to give our artists and writers a commission for the work they do.  Please consider setting up your adblock to allow ads on TFO to support the site.

From the beginning, we have pledged not to introduce donation creatures or other "pay to play" aspects to the game, so ads seemed the best way to cover site costs long term.  I am going to add an option to opt out of ads via patreon soon™️ for those who still want to support the site but don't want ads.

I don't love ads myself, but I want to make sure the site is here for the long term.  Thank you for understanding!  The exact ad placement is still in development.

P.S. Our google ad policy is that all ads served by google should be family friendly.  If you happen upon an ad that does not fit this description please take a screenshot and PM me so I can deal with it.

Information Naming for gold!
Posted by: ShinePaw101 - 07-30-2020, 05:57 AM - Forum: Site Discussion - No Replies

Need help coming up with names for your creatures? Why don't I lend a hand! I love coming up with names and themes and for a small fee i'll give you a helping hand.

If you use what I suggest then you would pay for it (If I suggest 3 names and you used them you would pay me 3 gold for thinking of said names)

Thinking of names is 1 gold per name
Thinking of a theme is 5 to 10 gold (depending on what you want it to be about, and if you want it to be about more than one thing) per theme

*Note prices may change as this goes on

In this thread if you would like to gift something, create a gift link for the creature(s) and post here. To prevent confusion, if you have claimed a gift, please respond by quoting what you have claimed, or if you are a Gifter whose gift is no longer available, please edit your post to say so. This thread is for gifting, not gift requests.

Breeding Genetics /Appearance Predictor with GUI
Posted by: Virida - 07-26-2020, 05:42 PM - Forum: Site Discussion - Replies (39)

While I love LATI I am admittedly to lazy for the manual input and translating the genes to colours in my head. So I threw together a simple Java-based program with a GUI for breeding predictions.

It won´t win any prizes for its looks or useability but it might help other lazy people like me.

To use it you can either add your creatures temporarily using the "add data entry" option directly or you select a textfile you want to save your data in first via "select project file".

If you select a project file all creatures you add after will be added to the selected file and loaded if you select it again when you start the program the next time. Under "show recorded data" you can see all creatures that are currently in the system and delete selected ones (e.g. ones you have traded or released).

Under predict gene probabilities you can chose one male/several females  or one female/several males to show the gene probabilities of their breedings.

Since I have only used it for myself and tested it with a small number of creatures I am not sure how it will handle larger datasets. Also I knew which buttons I expected to click so you might find ways to break it. If you post any bugs here I will try to fix them in a timely manner but I can make no guarantuees how fast that will be. I also only tested it under Win10, no idea if it runs on other platforms.

I have also prepared import/export options for LATI files but want to ask BlueLatios for their ok on that. Thanks for your ok!

It needs Java 1.7.0 at the least so you might have to update your Java version.
You can download the exe-file here

Release Notes:

1.0.1 - Ex-/Import options to LATI have been added
1.0.2 - A welcome screen with some explanations has been added
1.0.3 - Scrollbars added to lists on breeding prediction page;
1.0.4 - Import of older Lati-Files supported; Format change in project files - IMPORTANT: convert old project files via "convert" on the ex/import page
2.0 - Added a "Predict Appearance" Feature (currently WIP and only works for Cielarka Cimo, Floranta Doloro, Monta Selo, Senvida Naganto and Saltanta)
Also works form the Predict Breeding Probabilities Page - open it in a separate window by clicking "show Example" and clicking on cells in the results table will update the prediction image
2.0.1 - Fixed a bug in the dropdown selection for genes in the predict appearance page; added Kosmira Girafos, Suna Hundos and Stranga Sciuros to the predict feature
2.0.2 - Predict appearance works for everything except Fluganta Rato wings
2.0.3 - Fixed a bug that prevented Stranga Sciuros to be entered into the database
2.0.4 - Finally added Krizos!
2.0.5 - Added Limaka Cevalo, Strigosto, Abomena Pahidermo and Inkuba Brulajo
2.0.6 - Added Arbara Krono and FINALLY fixed the Fluganta Rato tint prediction!
2.0.7 - Added Sabla Rego, Vira Beko and Frida Fisisto
2.0.8 - Fixed a bug with Tagalos, adjusted LATI-file import to recongise names of newer LATI-files, added Okula Pikilo
2.0.9 - Muska and Avka Felo added - breeding prediction at your own risk as interbreeding is not properly supported (will only give results for one parent species)

OUTPOST #1 – BULLETIN #67
PRIORITY: URGENT

SUBJECT: NEW SPECIES DISCOVERED
Attention all scientists!
Erin Pontifis has submitted a comprehensive report on a new species she has been tracking for some time now. Due to their migratory nature, she has had to spend several months observing them from a distance, taking pictures when possible, although she states that caution is needed when approaching these massive predators.
These creatures have been dubbed Senfina Krizo, although Erin occasionally uses the colloquial name Screecher in her field notes due to the incessant nature of their vocalizations.
